music: neko case ~ the next time you say "forever"

Drabble meme, via [personal profile] lyras...

Comment in this post and I will write a drabble for any pairing/character of your choosing. I'll take up to ten requests.

Fandoms include (but are not necessarily limited to): Harry Potter, Leverage, Warehouse 13, Stargate, Star Wars (Original Trilogy and (some of) the EU), Fringe, X-Files, Chuck, Castle, various old time-y mysteries (Christie, Sayers, etc.) and anything I've written for here or here is pretty much fair game. Really just throw anything at me and I'll tell whether I know it well enough to comment -- because who knows with me these days (i.e., I would totally write, like, General Hospital fic -- or something equally randomly awesome -- if asked).

1. Michael Davies, Blackout/All Clear for lyras
2. Viscount St. George/Harriet, Sayers for anonymous
3. I Won't Dance, Don't Ask Me, Albus/June, Harry Potter/Dreamwalk Blue for anonymous
4. Bridesmaids, Ginny Weasley, Harry Potter for catewigs
5. Gravity, Jimmy/Yves, The Lone Gunmen for ticketsonmyself
6. We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance, Parker/Hardison, Leverage for ticketsonmyself

Have you read Connie Willis's Blackout/All Clear? If so, I'd love to see your take on Michael.

If not, how about something Wimseyish with Harriet and St George, with the prompt "Peter" (because it's always about Peter when those two are talking!).

I have read Blackout/All Clear. It was last year, though, so I might need to refresh my memory. Challenge accepted! ;)

BTW- I was totally going to respond to yours with a request for something Wimseyish, but I've completely (embarassingly) forgotten the name of one of the characters and am currently digging for my copy of Strong Poison to figure it out!

Viscount St. George and Harriet, from Sayers. (I always imagined that, besides liking to get his uncle's goat, he actually truly had an unrequited passion for her - possibly because she was sensible and serious, unlike all the many other young women he dated.)

(And, if the above isn't possible, you know I'm always in love with any June/Albus your fingertips manage to spin out :).)

I Won't Dance, Don't Ask Me (June/Albus)

Albus took her hand in his, looking rather serious, and slid his other arm around her waist.

June laughed, shaking her head at him. “Oh, you’ll dance with me now, will you?”

“Yes,” he said, not laughing with her.

“Oh, Albus. You really do make things hard on yourself, don't you?”

“Because I prefer to keep my private life private?”

“Private life?” she replied lightly, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in her gut. She'd thought he let this all go years ago, when she'd refused him the first time. “It's just a dance.”

“It's never just a dance with us.”

How about both? :) I had ten slots open and they haven't all been filled.

Glad you like the LGM fic! I actually think I have a couple more Jimmy/Yves pieces, apart from the longer fic, in the archives here, if you're interested.

Yes!! Thank you! :D I didn't realize I could get more than one request in. If I ask for more, will they qualify, too? ;)

Oh, oh that is excellent news. Thank you! (And is Hannah the daughter of Byers and Susanne??)

“You know, most people save their yearly benders for St. Paddy's Day.”

“I'm only a couple weeks off...” Jimmy set his shot glass down on the bar next to a half-empty pint of beer. He pointed at the glass. “What do you say, Sam?”

“I say you've had plenty,” Sam replied and whisked the shot glass back behind the bar with a practiced hand. He picked up the phone and dialed a number from memory. “Hey, come get your boyfriend.”

“What did she say?” Jimmy asked once Sam had hung up.

“That she's not your girlfriend...” He paused. “But that she'll be here in ten minutes.”

Even drunk as he was, he noticed when she walked in. He couldn't not. He was tuned to everything about her: her perfume, the way she walked, the way – today of all days – she was looking at him with something worryingly close to pity in her eyes.

“Six years today,” he said, a little unsteady on his stool. She didn't reply, just handed Sam a folded twenty, a look passing between them that Jimmy couldn't quite read. He reached out and grabbed her by the arm, demanding her attention. “Six years.”

“I know, Jimmy,” she said, her voice softer than usual.

“How can it have been that long? It doesn't feel like it's been that long.”

“They've been gone a long time. Why do you do this to yourself?” She helped him off the bar stool, slinging his arm around her shoulders.

“Why do you come and get me?”

“You already know the answer to that,” she said, managing him through the door and out to her car.

“Then so do you.” He let her put him in the passenger seat. “We can't let go, can we?”

He caught her as she backed away, one hand heavy on the back of her neck, fingers tangled in her long hair. He pulled her in close and kissed her firmly on the mouth before letting go.

“You're right, Jimmy,” she said, reaching over and fastening his seat belt. “I guess we can't.”

Perfect!

I like that you indicate there is a "usual" for them.

So in character (and, yes, so sad).

"We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance." (Parker/Hardison)

Dancing is, like, a thing with them.

It makes sense, Hardison figures, because of the way Parker dances through life, through theft, through the air connected suspended by nothing but thin thread.

The first time he watches her steal something it's like watching her dance to music he can't quite hear. The first time he thinks maybe he really has a chance with her, there's dancing. The first time they kiss, like a for-real kiss, there's dancing.

So dancing is a thing. Then again, narrowly escaping from life threatening situations is a thing with them, so who knows. Still, he finds, he really doesn't mind the dance.
