I guess it says something about Star Wars and its fandom that there are a whole bunch of databases dedicated to exceptionally dry and detailed specs of made-up ships, weapons and technology -- it's like Jane's meets the begats -- but no amount of googling seems able to provide me a reliable, intelligible or easily find-able timeline that addresses which characters did what when, and, most importantly, why. People do things for reasons, FFS. These characters don't exist in an emotional and logical vacuum. They don't just all suddenly decide to show up at the same place for no reason (I hope?).

Maybe I've just gotten spoiled by other fandoms. The Harry Potter fandom had elaborate reader's guides on everything, up to and including how many times certain characters touched one another, the supposed hidden meanings in hair and eye color, and how comma placement was a clue to who would wind up with who romantically by the end of the series -- all complete with footnotes, disputations and references to great works of literature. They were often deeply sad and wildly wrong, but this information existed in a series of easily searchable databases. Don't even get me started on The X-Files. Hell, at one point all the shooting scripts for Buffy and Angel were easily available online. How does this information not exist for Star Wars, which pre-dates them all by at least a couple decades?

(Am I really going to have to put on a bra and make-up and go to the public library to check out a book I didn't even like in the first place? Damn it.)

I remember the era of essays of scholarly argument about who would end up with whom in Harry Potter. The heyday of that fandom in the early 2000s was the best!

It was definitely something! Those were entertaining times, for sure.

I KNOW, RITE? I feel sort of bad, but half the reason I stopped writing Star Wars fic was simply because I didn't have easy access to my monstrous library of paperback SW books. And wookieepedia is USELESS when it comes to timelines, especially considering how much crap is always going on in a given year...

Also, is it just me, or is this font really tiny?

Seriously! I have fic to post, I just need to check myself on whether what I think happened actually happened, or if I just made it up in my own personal canon for this character. :(

Wookieepedia is... inconsistent. It's really good for some stuff, not so much for other things.
